The decaffeinated coffee from Colombia offers a completely distinctive experience, different from any other decaffeinated coffee you have tried. The caffeine is reduced using the natural Sugar Cane Ethyl Acetate (EA) process.
Ethyl Acetate, the solubilizer used to dissolve the caffeine in the Decaffeinated process, is derived from the fermentation of sugarcane grown in Colombia. After washing and steaming the coffee beans to open the bean structure, they are further washed with ethyl acetate to extract the caffeine. After removing the ethyl acetate and washing a second time, the coffee beans are dried back to the original 11-12% moisture content. This process doesn't remove as much of the coffee's flavor as other decaffeinated methods. In fact, this method is often used to increase sweetness!
